Four Drug Peddlers Held in South Kashmir: Police

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Shopian districts of south Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“In Kulgam, a police spokesperson said that a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. “During search, 3.1 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance filled in the said bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Sonauallah Dar resident of Bonigam. He has been shifted to PS where he remains in custody,” he said.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Devsar during patrolling at Sopat Maldar link road near ziyarat Sharief, intercepted two suspicious persons who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but where apprehended tactfully.

“During search, officers were able to recover 80 grams of Charas like contraband substance from their possession. They have been identified as Muneeb Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Yaqoob Ganie and Akash Lateef Ganie son of Mohd Lateef Ganie both residents of Nussu Badragund. They have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in police custody,” the police added.

In Shopian, he said that a police party of Police Station Imamsahib under the supervision of SSP Shopian at a checkpoint established at Chotipora crossing intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.

“During search, 1Kg 400grams of contraband Poppy straw like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Gh. Mohd Thoker son of Ab. Khaliq Thoker resident of Barbugh Imamsahib. He was shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” he added.

“Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated,” the police said.
