At least four persons were injured during stone-throwing clashes between youth and government forces in Palhallan hamlet of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district even as shutdown for the fifth day continued in the area against youth’ killing.

Witnesses told GNS that violent clashes erupted in the area after Friday prayers between protesters and forces. Shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters resorted to heavy stone-pelting on contingents of forces deployed in the area.

The forces fired dozens of tear gas shells to disperse the youth. However, witnesses said, the youth were re-grouping themselves and engaging forces in clashes.

Local sources said three youth sustained injuries in the clashes. One of the injured youths, who could not be identified, was hit by pellets. A paramilitary CRPF man was also injured in clashes.

Meanwhile, the media persons alleged that police didn’t allow them to cover the clashes in the area.

A local youth, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, was killed in police firing on Monday during protests in the area.
