SRINAGAR: Police said to have arrested four militant associates linked with the Lashkar-i-Toiba group, seizing arms and ammunition in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to a police statement issued on 30/10/2023, during a security checkpoint at Naradhiri Dangerpora junction, joint teams of Baramulla Police, along with 52 RR & 53 Bn CRPF, apprehended two individuals. They were identified as Gh Hassan Mir, son of Gh Rasool Mir, a resident of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa, and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd Afzal Khan, a resident of Pinjwara Laridora Chandoosa. Upon encountering the security forces, the two suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended. A Chinese Pistol, a Pistol magazine, 12 live rounds, and 2 hand grenades were found in their possession.
The police spokesman also stated that a case, FIR no. 68/2023 U/S 7/25 IA ACT, 13,18,23,39 UAPA, was registered in Police Station Sheeri, and an investigation was initiated. As the investigation progressed, two more individuals, Altaf Ahmad Rather, son of Ab Ahad Rather, from Kawhar, and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb, son of Ab Gaffar Naqeeb, from Kunzar, were brought in for questioning.
During questioning, both Altaf Ahmad Rather and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb admitted to possessing arms and ammunition. As a result of their disclosures, 2 hand grenades were recovered from both suspects, leading to their arrest in the ongoing case.
Further investigation revealed that all four accused individuals had previously worked with the terrorist associate Mudassir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ab Rashid Sheikh, a resident of Kunzer, who is presently detained under PSA. The investigation is ongoing, as stated in the release. (GNS)
