Four militants were killed in a gunfight with the counter in surgent forces in Daramdora area of Keegam in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday, police said.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “on a credible input a cordon and search operation was launched at Panzar area in District Shopian, by Police and counter insurgent forces.

“During searches, militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, ” said the spokesman.

“In the ensuing encounter, 04 militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identities and affiliations of the slain militants is being ascertained,” he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case,” he added.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,”said police spokesman in a statement.
