A  batch of 5,395 pilgrims left Jammu amid tight security arrangements on Friday for the Kashmir Valley to perform the Amarnath Yatra.

They left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoy of vehicles and headed to the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, an official said.

He said that of these, 1,966 pilgrims are going to Baltal base camp while 3,429 are going to Pahalgam base camp.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, 1,44,058 lakh pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

The pilgrimage will end on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
