SRINAGAR: Several areas of Kashmir’s plains received fresh snowfall on Saturday, while other parts of the Valley experienced light to moderate rainfall, officials said.
Snowfall was recorded in the plains of South Kashmir, including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, and Pulwama, giving the region a picturesque transformation. Tourist hotspots such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam also witnessed a fresh spell of snow, delighting visitors.
Officials confirmed that Gurez (Bandipora), Kupwara, and other higher reaches also received snowfall, which continued until the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, most other areas of the Valley were drenched in light to moderate rainfall, leading to a drop in temperatures. The Meteorological Department has predicted intermittent spells of rain and snow till Sunday morning, with conditions likely to improve by the afternoon.
“There is a possibility of brief spells of light rain or snow at several places towards Sunday morning,” the Met office said.
The fresh snowfall and rain are expected to affect road connectivity, especially in hilly areas, but will also boost water reserves, crucial for agriculture. Authorities have advised commuters to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to slippery road conditions. (CNS)
