SRINAGAR: Residents of Kumar Mohalla in Rangil, Ganderbal, Central Kashmir, expressed frustration towards the Power Development Department (PDD) for not addressing the damaged transformer issue that arose a week ago.

This comes a day after Principal Secretary of PDD, H Rajesh Prasad, emphasised the urgency of maintaining and replacing damaged transformers, stating, “We want damaged transformers to be maintained and replaced at the earliest because when there is no transformer in the area, there will be no electricity.”

He said, “In rural areas, we are already trying to replace damaged transformers within 24 hours to provide uninterrupted power supply as per the schedule.”

Local residents, while speaking to Kashmir Life said that the transformer had been damaged on Monday and was taken for repair on Thursday but malfunctioned again after three hours of operation.

Manzoor Ahmad, a resident, voiced the community’s hardship, questioning, “If we are paying hefty electricity tariff bills, why can’t we get proper electricity?”

Another resident criticised the authorities, stating, “They are naming and shaming people for theft, what are we stealing? There is no electricity, and they claim to be heroes fighting some war.”

Executive Engineer Ganderbal Nawab Ahmad assured Kashmir Life that they would soon address and repair the transformer issue.
