SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday busted a burglar gang and stolen property worth Lakhs was recovered from their possession in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “In the recent past within the jurisdiction of Police Post Keegam some incidents of burglary took place regarding which Police Station Shopian registered case FIR No. 22/2023, 83/2023, 133/2023 against the unknown burglars. To crack these burglary cases SIT headed by DySP Hqrs Syed Javid Ahmad KPS was formed by  SSP Shopian Tanushree IPS. The other SIT members were SHO Police Station Shopian Inspr. Peer Gulzar, D O Police Post Keegam Inspr Imtiyaz Ahmad, ASI Ab Rasheed and HC Mohammad Hussain Dar of Police Post Keegam.”

“During the investigation, it came to the fore that one among these was Waseem Ahmad Wani S/o Ab Aziz Wani R/O Ganowpora a well-known burglar of the Shopian area. In order to evade arrest said person left his home and was hiding at different locations. Based on specific input he was later arrested,” reads the statement.

After thorough and sustained interrogation the accused confessed to his crime and revealed the names of other accused involved.

“Nazir Ahmad Malik S/o Ab Rasheed Malik R/O Thairna Keller, Ishfaq Majeed Wani @ Isha Dabba S/O Ab Majeed  Wani R/o Mughalpora Pulwama, Jamsheed Ahmad Dar S/O Mohammad Sikander Dar R/O Keegam, Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh S/O Gh Rasool Sheikh R/O Argi Check Rajpora Pulwama, Riyaz Ah Wani @ Raja S/o late Mohd Akbar Wani R/O Loswani Pulwama,  are involved in these theft and burglary incidents. After thorough and sustained interrogation they confessed to the commission of crime and on their  disclosure stolen property worth lakhs was recovered. The stolen property includes Gold Jewelry, Copper Utensils, Tiller, Motorcycle, Spray Motor, Geyser and Batteries. The value of recovered property is Rupees 8, 00,000 approximately,” it said.

 

“The accused namely Nazir Ahmad Malik S/O Ab Rasheed Malik R/O Thairna Keller and Jamsheed Ahmad Dar S/O Mohammad Sikander Dar R/O Keegam also confessed to the commission of burglary incident which took place in year 2020 regarding which case FIR No 359/2020 u/s 457,380 stands registered in PS Shopian. The investigation of this case was closed as untraced earlier and now stands reopened an investigation of the said case has been set into motion again”, reads the statement.

 

“The investigation of these burglary cases is still going on and hopefully some more arrests and recoveries are expected very soon”, concludes the statement.
