Srinagar: Former IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu, the Expenditure Secretary, will take over as the first Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, while as Former Defence Secretary Radha Krishna Mathur will be the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, respectively. The two Union Territories will come to existence on October 31, 2019.

Satya Pal Malik- the incumbent Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa.

The changes came more than two months after the government ended special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and split the state into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

In a government order from President’s office issued on October 25, 2019, 8:00 pm, the order reads; the President of India is pleased to make the following appointments/changes:-

Satya Pal Malik, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir is transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa. Girish Chandra Murmu as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu-Kashmir and Radha Krishna Mathur as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices, the order reads.

Murmu was born on November 21, 1959 in Odisha state . A 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Gujarat cadre also served as principal secretary to Narendra Modi during his tenure as CM of Gujarat.

Considered a close confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Murmu was Secretary, Department of Expenditure in Ministry of Finance
