The event brought together faculty members, senior students and the incoming batch for an interactive session aimed at easing the transition into college life.

The programme began with a welcome address by the college librarian, who encouraged students to develop reading and writing habits and make regular use of the library.

The newly admitted students were welcomed with traditional khataqs before participating in a cake-cutting ceremony marking the start of the academic session.

The freshers introduced themselves and showcased their talents through music, dance, poetry and speeches. Interactive games were also organised to encourage teamwork, communication and confidence-building, with winners receiving khataqs and pens.

A traditional Zanskari dance performance by a fifth-semester student added a cultural dimension to the programme.

Addressing the students, Principal Dr Amjad Ali Abbasi outlined the academic facilities and support services available on the campus. He urged students to make full use of the library, laboratories, sports facilities and computer training opportunities, including NIELIT courses currently being offered by the college. He also encouraged them to prepare for higher education, research and employment by actively engaging in academic and skill-development activities.

As part of the celebrations, Stanzin Chuskit received the Best Dress award, while Stanzin Doat and Daechen Chosdon were named Mr Fresher and Ms Fresher, respectively.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Haider Ali Askary, Assistant Professor of Sociology.

While the college did not disclose the number of students admitted this year, the orientation programme reflected GDC Zanskar’s efforts to provide academic guidance and career awareness to its newest entrants in one of Ladakh’s remote higher education institutions.
