SRINAGAR

While terming the arrest of over 200 pro-freedom leaders and activists including Tehreek-e-Hurriyat General Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie, pro-freedom leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, Yasin Malik, Nayeem Khan, Dr. Gh. Mohammad Ganie and Mushtaq-ul-Islam in their houses and different police stations and jails, as an ‘accepted-defeat’ of the state-government, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has appealed for complete and state wide shut down on 21 April, Monday against this.

According to a statement issued to KNS, while thanking the people of Tral, Shahgund Hajan and other areas for boycotting and resisting the election rallies of the pro-Indian politicians, Geelani has strongly condemned the police action in Shahgund Hajan in which dozens of youths and journalists have been injured and many residential houses have been ransacked.  In Saturday’s press release, a pro-freedom leader said that the arrest spare of leaders and activists of Hurriyat Conference is continue and about 50 people including Javed Ahmad Najar, Suhail Ahmad Kaloo, Umar Ahmad, Salman Yousuf, Ghulam Hassan Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Kana, Mehraj-ud-din Bangroo, Feroz Ahmad Magray and Farooq Ahmad Jan have been arrested under the PSA like black laws and Asadullah Parra has been sent to Kuthwa Jail, Mehraj Nanda, Mehraj-ud-din Bangroo and Zahoor Ahmad Kana to sub-jail Kupwara and Javed Ahmad Najar and Suhail Ahmad Kaloo has been sent to Srinagar Central Jail.

While terming the use of Black Laws like PSA against the pro-freedom leaders and activists, a worst kind of state-terrorism, Hurriyat Chairman questioned the government that what happened to the press statement of police chief Ashok Prasad in which he have said that no one would be arrested in connection with the election boycott campaign.

“Those pro-freedom people who were slapped with PSA have been arrested from their homes and this statement doesn’t hold any truth that their activities have disturbed any law and order situation anywhere. While terming the state of Jammu and Kashmir as a ‘lawless land’, Geelani said that India is breaking her own laws in Kashmir and a lawless situation has been created here.

He said that Indian Supreme Court has passed a ruling that election boycott and peaceful campaign for election boycott is a basic and democratic right of every citizen and no one should be stopped for exercising this right, but this ruling is not being respected in Jammu and Kashmir and the anti-election campaign has been practically banned here. He said that the election process is held all over India, but no one is arrested are detained under the PSA like black laws for boycotting the election. India claims to be a big democratic country in the world, but this big claim gets badly exposed in Jammu and Kashmir and its meaning totally changes in opposite direction here.

The pro-freedom leader further said that if me and other pro-freedom leaders are not restricted and if we are given a chance to reach public, the parliamentary elections will miserably fail here, but government is caging the pro-freedom leadership and are threatening people by army and police to make this Indian sponsored programme a success. That is why this democratic process gets converted into a military operation, which has lost its importance and credibility. Geelani appealed the world community to take serious notice of the arrests of pro-freedom leadership and raise their voice against the detention of pro-freedom people under PSA like black laws.
