While felicitating people on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani said that the literal meaning of Eid although is joy and happiness but this time the Eid is being celebrated at a time when due to the destructive floods Kashmir is facing numerous problems and lakhs of our brethren are forced to their life under the open sky.

While appealing the people to celebrate the Eid-ul-Adha with simplicity, austerity and with Islamic eminence, he said that each type of alms, charity, donations and Skin (Khaal) of sacrificial animals should be kept and appropriated for the flood victims. According to statement due to health reasons, Geelani will offer Eid prayers at Hyderpora Jamia Masjid.

In a statement, Geelani  instructed people to “seek forgiveness of Almighty Allah in the Eid prayers and pray for his mercy so that we will come out from this terrible situation. Eid-ul-Adha remembers us the patience, loyalty and steadfastness of the great Prophet of Allah, Ibrahim (Peace be upon him). Our nation too should not lose hope and we should trust the Almighty Allah and we should be prepared for every kind of situation.”

Meanwhile, Geelani expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the fire incident at Lakhriyar Nawakadal which consumed 10 residential houses. He said that due to the recent floods, we have huge number of people living under the open sky and now these ten families have also been rendered homeless by the devastating fire. “Geelani sahib sent a team led by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat general secretary Muhammad Ashruf Sehrai which also comprises of district president Raja Mehraj-ud-din to the people affected by the fire. They distributed bedding, blankets, rice and other eatables among the affected families of Nawakadal and expressed sympathy with them.,” said amalgams spokesman.
