The government on Monday prevented Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani from holding a news conference here.syed-ali-geelani

A large contingent of police personnel deployed in Hyderpora, on the lane leading to Geelani’s residence prevented media persons from moving ahead. “There are orders from the top not to allow any journalist to enter into the residence of Geelani, so it is better for you to leave the place,” a group of policemen led by a Station House Officer told media men on the spot.

Geelani had decided to hold a press conference after the eruption of communal violence in Chenab Valley and Jammu.

Talking to a local news agency, CNS, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said police barred Geelani from addressing news conference by preventing entry of media persons.

“Geelani continued to remain under house detention and he was not allowed to speak before media,” he said adding that Geelani was intending to hold the press conference for peace but the government does not want peace to prevail in State.

Akbar said, “After imposing curbs on his movement, they are now preventing him from speaking to the media to de-link him from the people. But these draconian acts cannot keep him away from the masses as he rules their hearts,” Akbar said adding that like Gool incident Omar Abdullah has expectedly now exonerated VDC’s for their communal role.

“If Government can hold a senior leader like Geelani hostage on gun-point, the fate of common Kashmiris can be imagined,” he added.

Meanwhile, Octogenarian leader has used video-sharing website You Tube to express his views on communal violence.

In a 9:32 second video posted on the You Tube, Geelani has blamed Hindu extremists for all the mess in Jammu Division. “We will not let these Hindu zealots to massacre our brethren. VDC’s and RSS are hand in glove and they have been armed by the state to muzzle the freedom of Muslims in Jammu,” Geelani says adding that the government probe would prove an eyewash once again.

Expressing solidarity with the people of Kishtwar and Jammu, Geelani in his video says that Kashmir people can’t remain immune to the problems of Kishtwar people. “We affirm be it the Sikhs or Dogras or Muslims of Jammu they are our brothers in struggle.”
