Expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the killing of a 16 year old boy by VDC Members in Doda, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday demanded immediate disarmament and dissolution of VDC committees.

“Last week, after a young Muslim girl was gang-raped by VDC members in Kishtiwar, the consequent murder of young boy has proved that Omar Abdullah led government does not want to annoy Jan Sang and has given them free hand,” Geelani in a statement issued to Srinagar based news gathering agency GNS.

Geelani said that they (VDCs) with their means are terrorizing and harassing the local population and under long term strategy, RSS and Shiv Sena are hell-bent to force them to migrate from the said area. “They want to make it an area free from Muslim population.”

He said that Village Defense Committees instead of following the instructions of administration, follow commandments and instructions from fanatical and sectarian sections, and “are trying to make their lives hell.”

The Hurriyat Chairman while expressing his dismay said that state police has failed to develop sense of security among the local people. “Instead of taking action against the offenders, they are providing them support.”

Geelani extended his condolences and expressed his heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family. The Hurriyat Chairman also stressed and urged human rights organizations to highlight the plight of Muslims in Jammu province.
