SRINAGAR

All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday distributed cheques worth rupees 10 thousand and gift kits among the worst hit flood victims of Srinagar district at his residence in Hyderpora. The recipients included members of Sikh community as well.

Geelani, accompanied by his close associate Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, while giving away cheques and gift kits said that India is defying genuine demand of Kashmiris while blocking the international aid.

“In 2005 when earthquake hit divided Kashmir 57 nations came together and re-constructed Muzaffarabad while same was denied to this part,” he said while addressing the victims.

“Today when destructive and devastative deluge hit Kashmir and it destroyed everything that came into its way, India is again blocking the aid which is due in our case,” he said.

Geelani further added, “But we should not forget that Kashmir is an occupied territory and these (Aid Blockades) things shall happen.”

The pro-freedom leader maintained that nations across the world have affirmed their willingness to help Kashmiris but India is not allowing them. “Yes, people are ready to help us but India is stopping them,” Geelani replied to a question. He added that his party will continue to appeal for international aid even if India is not allowing it.

“Our activists after surveying Srinagar’s flood hit areas prepared a list of 50 most affected families,” Geelani said. He said the process would continue and same would be carried in other districts as well.

He lauded the role played by Kashmiri youth who rescued people during the floods. “The youth of Kashmir is our power and the work they did shall be written in golden words,” he said. “They displayed the best example of self help.”

Geelani while appealing well-off people to continue donating money for flood victims told the gathering that the deluge was due to Almighty’s Will. “Whatsoever we had, whatever we lost, it was only due to Almighty Allah and we should not get disheartened,” he said.

The octogenarian pro-freedom leader said that every pro-freedom party did its best in helping deluged people.

“Every pro-freedom party was on the forefront and did every possible help and for that we thank them.”

Taking a dig at pro-Indian parties, Geelani said that they did nothing but left Kashmiris in lurch during flood.
