The senior separatist Syed Ali Geelani while reiterating his call for the strike on Thursday asked the people of PaK to support the strike call. “This is the responsibility of the people of Azad Kashmir as it is their land also. They are free and they must aware the world about the situation of valley. I continue to remain under house arrest. No one is free here. The people of Azad Kashmir must play their role and the moral responsibility vis-à-vis the freedom struggle.”
Stating that a detailed meeting with the Panchayat representatives took place in a ‘cordial’ atmosphere, Huriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday stated he made the Panchayat members understand the importance of Kashmir’s ongoing resistance movement.
Geelani while talking to KNS stated that he told the Panchayat members who met him at his Hyderpora residence that the sacrifices rendered by the people of Kashmir during the movement must not be undermined and that the roads and the other developmental issues are unimportant in the ‘suppressed’ land.
When asked whether he asked the Panchayat members to resign, Geelani stated that he cannot force his decision on anyone and that he only clarified before them the importance of the freedom struggle. “We told them that they are also the part of the movement. The father of one of the Panchayat members was killed in custody and it was our obligation to tell them that they must not allow anyone to exploit them,” Geelani said.
He maintained that the meeting took place in a healthy atmosphere and both sides heard each other in detail. “They stated that they are working for the betterment of the people and to provide them the basic facilities like good roads and electricity. I told them that for the suppressed nations, priority must be given to the freedom from the occupation while as roads and other issues carry no weight.”
