SRINAGAR

Amidst fresh controversy with his parental organization, Jama’at-e-Islami, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani left for Delhi on Tuesday.

“He had to leave for Delhi couple of months earlier but he decided against only to reach to the people as he was set free after a long house detention but since early December he has again not been allowed to move out of his residence so he decided to leave,” a close aide of Geelani told Kashmir Life.

Ailing Geelani used to spend the coldest months in Delhi, on the advice of his doctors but this year he stayed in Kashmir for more than half of the Chillai-e-Kallan days.

Geelani was freed from his long house detention of 235 days on October 29, 2013 after which he addressed a number of public meetings in Sopore, Shopian, Kupwara, Pulwama and Kulgam. However, he was not allowed to organize public meetings in Tral, Palhalan and Srinagar.

Geelani was again house arrested on December 5 ahead of his Srinagar public rally which was scheduled on December 8.

Since then Geelani was not released.
