The family of veteran separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani accuses Delhi police of denying medical treatment to the ailing leader resulting in deterioration of his health condition.

After being put to house arrest along with his wife and son since Saturday morning at his Malviya Nagar residence in Delhi, Geelani who suffers from many ailments is complaining of suffocation and breathlessness.

According to family, heavy police contingent includes women constables as well and few of them have occupied Geelani’s bedroom, denying him the sleep during the night.

“This 30 hour detention in 6*8 room has created health problems for the octogenarian leader and his son Dr Naim who himself is a heart patient”, Aanisa Geelani, his daughter told Kashmir Life.

“He is not even allowed to move out of his own room which is causing him suffocation and breathlessness,” she added.

The family demands immediate medical aid to Geelani and his son.

“Both the father and son need immediate cardiac care”, says Geelani’s younger son Naseem Geelani who is presently in Kashmir.

The family alleges that Geelani is being deprived of essential commodities as well. “Deprived of the essential commodities, I am taking care of the medicines and food for all the members who are detained,” said Aanisa.

Pertinently, Aanisa along with her husband Iftikhar Gilani, senior journalist from Kashmir Saturday were also put under house arrest. “Our children were harassed by the police personals,” said Aanisa
