Geelani pays tributes to ‘martyrs of Bijbehara massacre’

Octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Monday paid tributes to “martyrs of Bijbehara” and said the blood of these “martyrs” will not be allowed to go waste and nation will never forget the sacrifices rendered by “martyrs of the heart-wrenching massacres”.

“As a nation, we are committed to fulfil their mission. Human rights organizations including Amnesty International should utilize their offices in bringing to book the perpetrators involved in heinous crimes against humanity.”

The senior resistance leader said as long as Indian forces are there, such painful events will occur and it will further add to the never-ending situation of uncertainty.

Geelani expressed and conveyed his deep feelings to bereaved families of “martyrs of Bijbehara massacre” and said that they have presented unparalleled sacrifices for a sacred cause and hundreds of graveyards stand testimony for this. “Martyrs sacrificed their future for us and now we are duty bound to safeguard these sacrifices and pursue their mission.”

Geelani said that Indian forces perpetrated hundreds of such “gruesome massacres” in Jammu and Kashmir, including Bijbehara, Gow Kadal, Sopore, Handwara, Bandipora, Kupwara, Zakura, Wadhama, Chati Singhpora and added that Indians during their freedom movement witnessed one massacre of Jallianwala Bagh, while as we have witnessed so many such incidents during last seven decades.

Referring to history, Geelani said that after the independence of India from British rule in 1947 more than five lakh innocent Muslims were brutally killed.

Geelani while referring to officers involved in these killings, said that those involved in these heinous crimes are roaming free and were never prosecuted for their crimes or brought to book, instead were honoured and elevated to higher status. He said it is because of this unaccountability that people are worst sufferers and are facing these heart-breaking events.

“Forces feel free and can kill anybody without any fear of accountability, while international community have turned their blind eye to all these gruesome happenings.”
