SRINAGAR
Senior Hurriyat Leaders including Syed Ali Geelani and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai continue to remain under house detention this Friday as well.
All parties Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson, Geelani, is under house detention since he landed in Srinagar after he returned from New Delhi in March. “He has not been allowed to move out of his house-cum-office since then,” a Hurriyat leader said.
Geelani, an acute chest disease patient, flew to New Delhi in January for advanced treatment.
Hurriyat sources said that deputy of Geelani and his old time associate, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai too has been detained in his house for last some days. “Cops are present inside his courtyard and he is not being allowed to move out,” they said.
Meanwhile, sources added, Sehrai is set to become next chairperson of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
A Democratic Freedom Party member said that its chairperson and Hurriyat Conference (g) Secretary General, Shabir Ahmad Shah, too has been detained in his office at Sanat Nagar. “Police have not allowed him to even to go his home,” he said.
Because of the government ban, Geelani has not been able to offer mandatory Friday congregational prayers.
