Top resistance leadership of Kashmir has been placed under house detention thus barred from Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani remains under house detention for over three months now. He is suffering from ailments. He has even been barred from offering Friday congregational prayers.

His deputy and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Secretary General, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, too has been detained at his Baghat residence. He is under detention since Jumat-ul-Vida.

Hurriyat Conference (m) chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was scheduled to lead Eid prayers at Eidgah, has been placed under house detention.

Meanwhile, reports said that Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik was placed under house arrest just hours ahead the morning prayers on Wednesday.

Police have also placed Hurriyat leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah and Engineer Hilal Ahmad War under house arrest.

Hurriyat Conference (m) leader and chief of his JKLF faction, Javaid Ahmad Mir, too has been put on under house arrest late last evening.

Resistance leadership has called for peaceful protests after Eid prayers against proposed establishment of Sainik and Pandit Colonies; New Industrial Policy and detention of political leaders and activists.

Authorities have been detaining Hurriyat leaders on such occasions “in view of law and order issues”.

In the evening, sources said that Geelani’s deputy, Muhammad Asraf Sehrai, was able to offer Eid prayers at a local Jamia Masjid in vicinity of his home. “However, the motive of putting him under house arrest was not to allow him address any gathering,” Hurriyat sources claimed.
