SRINAGAR: Ghent University is offering a fully funded doctoral scholarship for the year 2025, providing international students from developing countries with an exceptional opportunity to pursue doctoral studies in Europe at no cost. This scholarship is specifically designed for scholars seeking to establish themselves in the field of science.

The deadline for the application process is February 19, 2025.

Interested candidates must be nationals of one of the eligible developing countries, including Gambia, Afghanistan, Cuba, Angola, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Bhutan, Nigeria, Mali, Pakistan, Mauritania, Congo, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Burundi, Egypt, Cambodia, Eswatini, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, Eritrea, India, Ethiopia, Jordan, Guinea, Kenya, Guinea-Bissau, Comoros, Ghana, Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, Kiribati, Micronesia, Lesotho, Mongolia, Liberia, Morocco, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Papua New Guinea, Mozambique, Philippines, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Niger, Tajikistan, Rwanda, Tokelau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tunisia, Senegal, Ukraine, El Salvador, Chad, Central African Republic, Djibouti, Honduras, Sierra Leone, Uzbekistan, Solomon Islands, Vietnam, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tuvalu, Bangladesh, Cape Verde, Peru, Benin, Cameroon, Uganda, Yemen, Zambia, Indonesia, West Bank and Gaza Strip, Samoa, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Iran, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Algeria, Syrian Arab Republic, Belize, and Ecuador.

The eligibility criteria include that applicants must submit a joint research proposal, developed in collaboration with a supervisor from both Ghent University and a Partner University. Candidates must agree to the mobility scheme of the PhD programme in Belgium. While all fields of research are welcome, preference will be given to development-related topics. Only students intending to obtain a joint PhD degree at Ghent University are eligible.

The scholarship benefit includes a tuition fee waiver for 24 months, a monthly research grant of €310, and a travel budget of approximately €8,000 to support research-related travel expenses.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, a recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor, and an evaluation of the ethical and biosafety aspects of the proposed research project.
