SRINAGAR: Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has added 12 postgraduate medical seats, taking the total number of PG seats at the institution from 242 to 254.
Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced the increase on X on Friday, describing it as a step towards strengthening postgraduate medical education in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the announcement, MD Pathology seats have increased from 18 to 23, MD Paediatrics from 18 to 20, MD Pharmacology from 10 to 12 and MD Microbiology from seven to eight.
MD Respiratory Medicine has also been introduced at GMC Jammu for the first time, with two seats.
The minister said that 70 MBBS seats and 56 postgraduate seats had been added across Jammu and Kashmir over the past two years. She added that DM and MCh seats were also expected to be introduced shortly.
Itoo described the latest increase as another milestone under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in strengthening medical education in the Union Territory.
