SRINAGAR: In a significant move, the Government of India has created 94 faculty posts and 244 non-faculty posts for the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kashmir.

The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has ordered the creation of faculty and non-faculty posts for AIIMS Awantipora.

In an order, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said that the President of India has granted sanction for the creation of these posts for AIIMS, Awantipora under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

The Ministry has ordered the creation of two posts each for professors and additional professors, five posts for associate professors, and 85 posts for assistant professors.

Out of the 244 non-faculty posts, 100 are designated for nursing officers (Staff Nurse Grade II) at Level-7, and 50 each for senior residents and junior residents.

The Ministry, in the order, stated that these posts may be filled once the infrastructure is ready.

“The institute must ensure that, in no case, shall the pay level of posts agreed upon for creation be greater than the posts already sanctioned in various AIIMS, and that all posts are filled up on a regular basis as per approved recruitment rules only. They should also ensure that there is uniformity in pay scale/grade pay levels for similar posts carrying similar duties & responsibilities to avoid any complications/litigation in the future,” reads the order.

As already reported, the Government of India had appointed Lt General Dr Anup Banerji, a retired top medical officer from the Army, as its first executive director in June 2022. However, he didn’t join, prompting the Government of India to restart the selection process in February this year for filling the key administrative position. (KNO)
