This enhanced funding, earmarked for the current financial year, will support the establishment of 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing laboratories across the country.

The decision was made during a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The outlay of PMKSY has been increased to Rs 6,520 crore,” confirmed Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while briefing the media on the Cabinet’s decisions as reported by The Hindu.

Launched in 2017, the PMKSY scheme was previously extended through the 2025–26 fiscal with a budget of Rs 4,600 crore. The latest enhancement aligns with the government’s commitment to implementing its budget promises for the food processing sector.
