 The Government Thursday banned the private practice of all heads of Departments in the Government run Medical and Dental Colleges of the State and their Associated Hospitals. An order to this effect was issued by Commissioner-Secretary, Health & Medical Education, M. K. Dwivedi.

“The decision has been taken to further improve patient care at these hospitals and make senior doctors available for their respective Departments all around,” a government spokesman said in a statement.

The decision followed the first review meeting the Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi ud din took following his assuming the charge of the said Departments.

Earlier, Dwivedi apprised the Minister about working of the Department. He also brought to the notice of the Minister various issues concerning the Department. It was in this meeting the decision to ban private practice of HoDs of all Government run Medical and Dental Colleges was taken.

Terming healthcare as a critical sector, the Minister asked for bringing in more reforms in the Department to infuse efficiency, transparency and above all a qualitative change in the patient care at these tertiary care hospitals. He said improvement of services in terms of patient care, medication and other facilities at hospitals is as important as strengthening basic infrastructure at these health institutions.
