SRINAGAR: The Government has further extended the consultation period for the draft Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, following extensive and varied submissions from the public and media industry stakeholders.
The draft Bill was released on November 10, 2023 with comments invited until December 9, 2023, a deadline later extended to January 15, 2024. In view of the wide-ranging suggestions received, including from major media and entertainment associations, the Government pushed the comment period back again to October 15, 2024.
Officials said all submissions have now been reviewed. The Minister stated that the Government remains committed to “wide and extensive consultations” before finalising the legislation.
