As the construction of tunnel at Zojila has been approved, government fails to tender the project as there was no response despite the fact that bids for the project were invited four times and date of two bids were even extended.

The project has been approved by Minister of Road transport & Highways for the construction of the tunnel at Zojilla Pass on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Highway and the project has been entrusted to national Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).

This was revealed in a written reply by government in Legislative Assembly on Monday.

To expedite the tendering process of the project, government stated that Minister of Road transport & Highways has now approved for change of mode of project delivery from Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode to Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) mode.”

“Revised Cost Estimation for construction of Zojilla tunnel has accordingly been submitted by NHIDCL to the ministry for approval,” the documents mention, “Fresh Bids will be invited by NHIDCL after the Ministry approves the Revised Estimations.”
