Communist leader and lawmaker Yousuf Tarigami has asked for immediate release of political detainees including JKLF leader Yasin Malik. Rumours about his health triggered tensions in the city during the day.

CPI (M) leader Tarigami said that the opposition parties have been demanding release of all political detainees including separatist leaders. However, unfortunately the government continues to be unconcerned and reluctant to listen to such suggestions.

“Reports are pouring in that senior leader and Chairman JKLF Mohammad Yasin Malik, who is under detention since several months, is ailing,” the statement said, “We urge upon the administration to consider his immediate release, so that he can get an opportunity for better treatment.”

Tensions mounted during the day when rumours claimed Malik being seriously unwell. This eventually led the JKLF to react. The party said that even though he is unwell, he is stable.

“Though Malik is ill and not feeling well at Srinagar central Jail, but he is stable,” the spokesperson said, asking people to pray for his speedy recovery and not panic. “Do not pay any heed to rumours.”
