SRINAGAR: Governor Satya Prakash Malik was scheduled to fly to Srinagar and preside over the function the Annual Day function of the SKIMS. However, at the last moment, he flew to Delhi, official sources said.

The birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is the Annual Day of the SKIMS.

Officials said Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam has also flown to Delhi. The SKIMS function will now be attended by the advisers B B Vyas, Vijay Kumar and KK Sharma who have already landed in Srinagar. However, Chief Secretary’s visit was already scheduled, a senior official said.

“We were supposed to have the governor presiding over the function but at the last moment we were told he is not coming,” a senior official of the SKIMS said. “We were told he had some health problem.”

The official said the function was better. DR Farooq Abdullah, the former Chief Minister and MP, who made a short speech also announced a one crore rupees grant to the SKIMS for setting up an auditorium. In absence of this facility, the SKIMS holds its major functions in the SKICC, almost 10 km away from the institute.

“The advisers made good and impressive speeches,” the official said. They also released the Annual report and various other publications. “The major highlight was that some of the supporting staff was awarded for their contributions,” the official said. The faculty, staff and select members of the SKIMS were part of the elaborate yearly function.
