Government of India has reportedly agreed to issue passport to Octogenarian separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani to visit his ailing daughter Farhat Jabeen Geelani, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

MoS PMO, Jitendra Singh told reporters that, “Law is clear on the provisions to be made on humanitarian grounds.” He also added saying that Geelani will have to go through similar clearance procedure like any citizens and no special provisions will be made.

Reliable sources told CNS that Ministry of Home Affairs has given its nod and has agreed to issue passport in favor of Geelani on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, another BJP leader Jugal Kishor told reporters in Jammu that the decision to issue passport to Geelani will be taken by Centre.

Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said that they have not received any information about the issuance of passport in favour of Geelani Sahab. “It is our compulsion to travel on Indian document. Freedom to movement is our birth right but Indian occupational forces deny this right to the people of Kashmir,” he said.

  1. People of India always happy to issue Passport to Geelani on humanitarian grounds if he admits that he is living in a place which is an integral part of India otherwise let the case be decided by the apex court of India to decide the issue on merit and under what conditions Geelani should be given pass port considering his constant anti national stand.Politics and politicians have little say in the matter as the question of constitutionality is involved in cases like this.
