SRINAGAR: The government in Jammu and Kashmir has requested that the enforcement agencies accept virtual driving licences (DL) and registration certificates (RC) through DigiLocker and m-parivahan mobile apps.

In a letter, the transport commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir has urged enforcement officers to acknowledge the DigiLocker driving licence and registration certificates from citizens’ DigiLocker accounts.

“The Digilocker and m-Parivahan mobile apps of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, are legally recognised documents on par with the original documents as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000,” reads the letter.

The letter further states that complaints continue to pour in regarding enforcement agencies disregarding these documents and insisting on hard copies.

The transport commissioner has written a letter to the Inspector General of Police of the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Department.

“In this context, we kindly request that you issue orders or instructions within your organization to direct all the concerned parties to honour Virtual Driving Licences (DL) and Registration Certificates (RC), etc., on Digilocker and m-Parivahan Mobile Apps,” it reads. (KNO)
