Sources familiar with the situation stated that following the failure to meet the previous completion deadline, the GoI has mandated the timely execution of all pending and ongoing projects by mid-2024.

“Out of the 158 projects earmarked, approximately 93 have reached completion. However, significant work remains, with many projects still in progress and others in the tendering phase. The directive stresses completing all pending and ongoing projects by June 2024,” the sources disclosed.

According to smart city officials in Srinagar, the five-year project plan, which commenced in 2018, allocated funds of around Rs 1000 Cr for various smart city projects, of which over Rs 500 Cr have been spent on numerous projects.

Although several works may have been completed, according to Srinagar Smart City officials, several ongoing projects are causing disruptions to transportation in the city.

Notably, the initial deadline for completing Smart City Projects in Srinagar was set for December 2023. However, failing to meet this deadline, a revised and final completion date has been issued by the GoI for all projects in the city—(KNO)
