Srinagar: National Conference Monday expressed dismay over the continuous and unrelenting cycle of death in the valley and blamed the ruling coalition of PDP BJP for failing to safeguard the lives of innocent civilians.

In a statement issued from party headquarters, National conference General Secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar condemned the killing of 65 year old civilian Ghulam Mohammad Khan of Illahibagh Srinagar in a grenade attack near Khanyar police station yesterday. “Its highly regretful that a civilian died in a grenade attack. We express our condolences with the bereaved family and pray for speedy recovery of the injured.”

The statement further reads, “As incharge of the home dept, it’s CM Mehbooba Mufti who is supposed to maintain peace in the state but so far she has failed miserably in doing so. The unabated killings of civilians going on in the state is reminiscent of the dark phase Kashmir witnessed in 90s.”

While demanding an extraordinary compensation to next of kin of GM Khan, Sagar said, “I fail to understand why government has not been able to put a halt to such senseless killings happening throughout the state. It is therefore imperative that those involved in spreading fear and perpetrating atrocities among masses be exposed and brought to book.”

“There is a large scale apprehension regarding involvement of sponsored agencies in such incidents happening every day. The government must unmask those who are behind these incidents. Whether it was the killing of a public prosecutor in Shopian or a political worker in Pulwama or the attack in pulwama where a civilian was grievously injured, government so far has not done anything beyond the ritualistic tear shedding and is letting those behind such heinous crimes scot free,” Sagar said.

NC demanded that victims of violence be compensated adequately and in time.
