Lashing out at the state government over power crisis in Valley, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga Sunday said the PDP-BJP alliance has miserably failed to provide even basic amenities to the people.

In a statement, Monga said the state government has miserably failed to provide electricity to people especially those living in the Valley during harsh winters. “the last more than one decade such power crisis had never been witnessed in Kashmir during the winter. In this harsh winter people electricity plays hide-n-seek leaving people high and dry. Even in metered areas the electricity is supplied for a few hours. We fail to understand what happened all of a sudden this year that government is resorting to long curtailment,” he said.

The Congress leader said the situation is even worse in non-metered areas. “Power curtailment schedule has been reduced to an exercise in futility. What is the point in having a curtailment schedule in place when power is not supplied in accordance with it” he asked.

Monga said that students were the worst sufferers of this crisis as their exams are ongoing. “After months of unrest, the student community had started to prepare for exams but in the absence of electricity, it becomes extremely difficult for then to concentrate on their studies,” he added.

Assuring the people that Congress will highlight their problems within and outside the Assembly, the JKPCC Vice President said, “We will ask answers from the government in the coming Assembly session regarding power crisis. Why all of a sudden there has been crisis this year. Why wasn’t government ready for this?”

“The government needs to focus on the State’s power sector in the budget to bring people out of this mess,” he demanded.
