For the first time since the death of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sunday evening officially revealed that the party president will take the final call on new government formation.
PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, chaired a five hour long meeting of its core group including MPS, ex-ministers, secretary generals and advisors at her Fairview residence at Gupkar.
Speaking to media around 6:35 this evening, PDP spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said, “Agenda of Alliance is the holy scripture for PDP and many things have happened under late Mufti Sayeed as CM.”
While welcoming the new round of dialogue between India and Pakistan, Naeem said, “we discussed the vision and legacy of our late patron and it was his wish that good relations between India and Pakistan means stable J&K.” “President Madam welcomed the gesture of PM Modi when he landed in Lahore (on Nawaz Sharief’s birthday).”
“Despite Pathankote attack, it is a welcome step that the dialogue is continuing,” he said, “late Mufti has always been advocating such good relations.”
When asked whether PDP will continue the alliance with Hindu nationalist BJP, Akhtar said, “Mehbooba Ji has been assured of all the support by all the party members and she will take the final call on government formation.” “However,” he added, “we are working on how to move ahead on Agenda of Alliance.”
