SRINAGAR: The government, on Thursday, granted approval for the formation of a committee tasked with examining the ‘Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2023.’

Headed by the Director General of Police (Prisons), the committee has been assigned the responsibility of reviewing the provisions of the “Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2023” and recommending necessary changes and modifications, accompanied by justifications. This task will also take into consideration the feedback received from various sources regarding the draft Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2023.

Additionally, the committee has been entrusted with studying the provisions of the “Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2023,” with the aim of proposing any required amendments to the provisions outlined in the Prison Manual, 2022. The committee’s members will comprise a representative from the PHQ, not below the rank of SSP, nominated by the DGP, J&K; a representative from the CID, not below the rank of SSP, nominated by the Special DGP, CID, J&K; a representative from the Department of Law, Justice & P.A., not below the rank of Addl. Secy., nominated by the Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & PA, and a representative from the Prosecution Department, not below the rank of DD(P), nominated by the DG, Prosecution. (GNS)
