SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed dismay over the slack attitude of the government in the reconstruction of Bones and Joint hospital at Barzulla, a major portion of which had gutted down in March this year.

Lamenting the laxity of the administration in restoring the hospital facilities, party’s Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal said that the reconstruction work on the important medical care facility has been put into cold storage not giving any heed to the centrality of the facility in treating the trauma cases coming from across Kashmir and Jammu areas. “This government is more concerned about photo ops and is unnecessarily putting people in trouble.”

“The facility was the first stop for trauma hit patients from every section of the society. The delay has pushed scores of people including those from the lowest economic strata at the mercy of market forces in privately run hospitals. It has become very hard for people to meet the expenses of implants and surgeries at private hospitals,” he added.

“It was expected that the government would carry out capacity building and infrastructure augmentation at all district hospitals across Kashmir to ease out the burden from B&J hospital Barzulla, but nothing has been done on that front either as well. I hope the administration will expedite the reconstruction work on B&J hospital Barzulla and also come up with a comprehensive capacity building and infrastructure augmentation across all district hospitals to meet the medical care demands of ever increasing populace,” he said.
