The Army has allegedly occupied around 20 kanals of land at Rangreth Industrial area belonging to Jammu and Kashmir State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO).

According to a top official of SIDCO, the land measuring 20 Kanals have been encroached by the Army at Industrial area Rangreth. “Few days before the Army came at the midnight and occupied about 20 knals of land. Though we brought the issue into the notice of higher officials of the Army but they failed to resolve the issue,” one of the top officials of SIDCO wishing anonymity told KNS.

He said that the department has taken up the matter with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. “We have put up the matter with Div Com Kashmir and have requested him to look into the matter,” he said.

The official added it is a disturbing situation for them. “Army has refused to vacate the land and has erected the concertina wire on whole of the area,” he said and added that the Army has even constructed temporary sheds on the land,”

District Commissioner Budgam Altaf Ahmad said that the issue has been brought in his notice and has directed the revenue officials to visit the site and take stock of the situation. “As per my information the Army and SIDCO have some dispute of land exchange but we are looking into the matter,” he said

Meanwhile, Army spokesperson colonel Brijesh Pandey said that though he is not aware about the matter, he will look into the matter.
