The Ummat e Islami has accused the government of arresting its chairman and Mirwaiz South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, as preplanned ahead of the gunfight in Kulgam on Sunday only to stop him from leading the protests. The party has strongly condemned the killings and use of extreme force against people۔

Qazi Yasir

Qazi Yasir according to spokesman was arrested on February 10th in wake of organising a rally to commemorate Mohammad Afzal Guru and Mohammad Maqbool Butt’s death anniversary. A party spokesman quoted Qazi Yasir saying that the government doesn’t even want to solve Kashmir issue peacefully as per the aspirations of the people.

“People are demanding their genuine rights and the government has only used maximum force to quell any such protest. In Kulgam, bullets were showered at civilians killing two and injuring dozens. Such a policy of bloodbath needs to stop and the international community should take serious note of what is being done to Kashmriris everyday,” the spokesman quoted Yasir.

Released after spending four months in custody, Qazi Yasir, visited PSA detainees’ families and those who were killed, including the local freedom fighters. “The government should have learnt a lesson from months long uprising that Kashmiri issue can not be solved through mere use of force,” he said. “The current freedom movement is run by youth of Kashmir and they have aspirations which need to be addressed. It is hight time to start meaningful dialogue on Kashmir issue with Kashmiris on board and listen to people’s anger.”

A delegation of JK Ummat e Islami consisting of Molana Gulzar Madni, Molana Irshad Atari and Molana Arif visited the homes of slain youth and paid tributes to them. The delegation also lead a pro freedom demo at Hidigam Srigufwara and offered fateh khwani at their rest places.
