SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday told the Legislative Assembly that a formal indent has been submitted to the Revenue authorities in Budgam for the allocation of land to establish a fruit mandi at Hardu-Wamina in the Beerwah constituency.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Shafi Ahmad Wani, the government stated that the indent, issued vide No. DHPM/MAC/201/2025-26/2860 dated 31 October 2025, seeks the transfer of 72 kanals and 16 marlas of Kahcharai land. The proposed site is situated approximately nine kilometres from Hardu-Wamina in Beerwah.
Replying to a separate query concerning the utilisation of prime horticulture land in Beerwah, particularly the site of the erstwhile walnut processing factory, the government informed the House that a walnut processing plant had earlier been set up on 45 kanals and 15 marlas of land.
The plant was destroyed during the unrest of the 1990s, and there is currently no proposal under consideration for redevelopment of the site, the government added.
