SRINAGAR: The Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo, on Monday said that the government will restore the academic session to the November-December period from next year.
In 2022, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education and School Education Department had implemented the Uniform Academic Calendar, starting from the academic year 2022-23.
Minister Itoo said, “We are most likely restoring the academic session to November-December from the next academic year.”
“This year, it is not possible, but next year we will restore it with all stakeholders on board,” she added, noting that she had received numerous requests from concerned stakeholders to return to the previous academic session.
Minister Itoo further commented, “I have asked the concerned officials to provide details regarding infrastructure issues. Additionally, I have also been informed about the shortage of staff in the School Education Department.”
Meanwhile, Minister Itoo chaired an introductory meeting of the School Education Department on Monday to review its functioning.
During the meeting, the minister held detailed discussions on various aspects of the department, addressing key issues and concerns.
She emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to enhance educational outcomes for students across the region.
“Our primary goal is to ensure that every child receives quality education, in line with the requirements of today’s scientific and digital world,” she said.
The minister also directed the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department to identify vacant posts at all levels and refer them to recruiting agencies for prompt filling.
Furthermore, she instructed the directors of school education for both Jammu and Kashmir regions to organise teacher training modules in their respective divisions, ensuring educators are equipped with the latest pedagogical skills.
Minister Itoo also urged both directors to upgrade facilities at all girls’ hostels. (KNO)
