SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved heritage conservation projects worth Rs 13.75 crore for the restoration of the historic Purmandal shrine complex in Samba and the conservation and upgradation of the Imambara Zadibal in Srinagar, continuing its push to preserve the region’s religious and cultural landmarks.
According to an official statement issued on Friday, Rs 7.16 crore has been sanctioned for the restoration and revival of the historic Purmandal heritage site. The project aims to conserve the shrine town’s architectural and cultural character while upgrading basic infrastructure to improve facilities for pilgrims and tourists.
The government has also approved Rs 6.59 crore for the conservation and upgradation of the historic Imambara Zadibal. The project is intended to preserve the centuries-old structure’s architectural heritage while improving infrastructure and visitor amenities for the large number of devotees who visit the shrine throughout the year.
The government said the projects reflect its commitment to safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s religious, cultural and architectural heritage through focused investment in conservation and infrastructure development.
The latest approvals follow a series of heritage conservation initiatives cleared in recent months. Earlier, the government sanctioned ₹6.38 crore for the development of the revered Khoo Sahib holy spring at Yarwan in Pulwama’s Shadimarg area, aimed at improving pilgrim facilities while preserving the site’s religious and historical significance.
It had also approved heritage restoration projects worth ₹16.36 crore for the Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian and the Sarvadhar Chaumanda Mata Mandir in Ramban, with the objective of conserving historic religious structures and strengthening amenities for worshippers and visitors.
The government said the initiatives form part of its broader strategy to restore and preserve places of religious and historical importance across Jammu and Kashmir while improving public infrastructure at heritage sites.
