SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday informed the Assembly that 25 cement factories are currently operational across the Union Territory.
Responding to a question by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, the government, said that all operational cement factories have been issued provisional certificates—Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO)—by the Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) before commencing production.
However, the response did not provide specific insights into the environmental impact of these cement units on surrounding areas.
A detailed list identifies 25 cement plants, of which 20 are currently functional, while five remain non-functional.
The operational cement factories are located across districts including Kathua, Udhampur, Samba, Pulwama, and Srinagar. Notable functional units include M/s Chatan Cement Industries (Kathua), M/s Shivalik Cement Industries (Udhampur), M/s Trumboo Industries Pvt Ltd (Pulwama), and M/s Khyber Cement Pvt Ltd (Srinagar), among others.
