The government on Wednesday placed under suspension DFO Marwah Altaf Hussain Shah who was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail for his involvement in BOPEE scam. The scam was engineered by former BOPEE chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Peer who has been sentenced to 16-years in jail and fined Rs 1 crore.

As per the report of the Crime Branch conveyed vide letter No CHQ/FIR/24/13/CBK/6069 Dated 16/05/2018, Altaf Hussain Shah I/C DFO Marwah has been convicted under section 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) PC Act 2006 and under section 420 RPC and has been arrested on 03/05/2018. Therefore Altaf Hussain Shah I/C DFO Marwah is placed under suspension with immediate effect, reads an order issued by the Commissioner Secretary to Government Forest Environment & Ecology Department.

In its communication on 16/05/2018, the crime branch had informed the government formally that Hussain has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment in connection with the BOPEE scam.

The crime branch also informed the court that Hussain has surrendered on 03/05/2018 and is presently lodged in central jail Srinagar for undergoing the punishment. (GNS)
