Jammu: The state government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that the Ministry of communications, Department of Telecommunications, Government of India is conducting a village-level survey of Tele-Connectivity in the whole state for augmentation of Tele- connectivity In Jammu and Kashmir.

In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, the Government has said that the survey has been completed in 16 districts of the state and is expected to be completed in rest of the districts shortly.

The government has said that after completion of the survey by the Department of Telecommunications, GoI can finalize the DPR for Intensifying Tele- connectivity in J&K.

The government has further informed that the union telecommunication ministry through universal service obligation Fund (USOF) has recently established 43 Public Wi-Fi spots in rural exchange of Ladkah.

The government is likely to provide broadband connectivity to 168 Gram Panchayats of five districts namely Jammu, Samba, Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar, and in the rest of the Panchayats in other districts, the broadband connectivity will be provided by BSNL in the BharatNet phase- 2, for which the process has been initiated.
