A complete shutdown is being observed on the fifth consecutive day Saturday at Kangan area of central Kashmir’s  Ganderbal district against the killing of a youth in police action.

Gowhar Ahmad Rather (22) was grievously injured in police action on Monday following which he was admitted at SKIMS Soura where he breathed his last on Tuesday.

All the shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed in the area and traffic is off the roads.

The contingents of forces have been deployed at sensitive locations in the town to thwart any “element of violence”.

High-speed Mobile Internet service remained suspended in Ganderbal district on the fifth consecutive day.

In a quick action to the killing and prevent the situation from deteriorating further, the government announced a magisterial investigation. It also “detained” a police head constable who is “alleged” to have opened his service weapon and fired at Rather.

“We have registered an FIR against the man and detained him,” a police officer said.
