People in North Kashmir’s Sopore town ran for safety when suspected militants Tuesday, fired a rifle grenade towards a  bunker of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) but the device failed to explode, police said.

According to police sources, grenade was fired  towards the bunker of 179 battalion CRPF in Sopore town’s Iqbal market on Tuesday morning which missed the target and also failed to explode.

He said government forces called in the Bomb Disposal Squad which diffused the grenade.

There was no harm caused by the controlled explosion of the grenade.

According to reports, soon after the incident government forces cordoned off the area and conducted searches, which till last reports were going on.
