One person was injured Tuesday in a group clash between the two rival contractors of Food Corporation of India (FCI) outside the Jammu Court Complex.

The incident happened when the two rival contractors, Nalwa and Kala were attending a court hearing of the 2006 infamous Chopra murder case in which five members of a family were killed in what was suspected to be a case of business rivalry.

“The spate broke out when the two groups (both sardars) started exchanging heated words before training guns at each other,” the onlooker said.  The injured has been identified as Surinder Singh of Kala group.

The police arrested Nalwa group on spot shortly after the incident.

Among the arrested are Davider Singh, s/o Rajinder Singh of New Plot Jammu; Jasvinder Singh, s/o of Gorbachan Singh of Nanak Nagar Jammu; Karanjeet Singh, s/o Amarjeet Singh of Patoli Janipur; Rajinder Sharma, s/o Subash Chander of old Janipur Jammu; Ranjodh Singh, s/o Gurbaksh Singh of Tara Tillo Jammu and Pranvat Singh, s/o of Man Mohandas Singh of Gadi ghar Jammu.

Pertinently, on intervening night of September 17-18, 2006, five people, including cement tycoon Raju Chopra, his wife Madhu Chopra, daughter Saloni, driver Jagan and helper Sonu, were murdered in what was then believed to be a case of business rivalry.

The Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the case had arrested the four persons, including the NC leader, in connection with the case. Later, a local court let off a former National Conference MLC Tarlochan Singh Wazir, his brother Ajaib Singh, Nagar Singh and Raju Simblia.
