SRINAGAR

Ugly scenes were witnessed at the Congress headquarter here on Thursday, during the All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s function,  as Congress workers protested against the speech of a youth leader.

According to KNS correspondent, the groupism within the party today came to fore when a party youth leader Abid Kashmiri appreciated the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and PHE minister Sham Lal Sharma in his speech. The speech infuriated the Congress delegates who stood up from their seats and raised slogans in support of minister for medical education Taj Mohi-u-Din who was present on the occasion.

Abid Kashmiri in his speech had said that Sharma is the only Congress minster in the state who listens to the woes of workers.

However, taking strong exception to the speech made by the youth leader, the supporters of Taj expressed strong resentment against the remarks and shouted slogans in favour of Taj.

Amid this chaos PCC senior vice president and MLC Muzaffar Parray called upon Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din to come on dais and try to cool the tempers. However, soon after Taj’s came on stage, there was huge round of applause and the situation came under control.

Meanwhile talking to KNS Abid Kashmiri said: “Whatever I said is true. I repeat my words and I don’t hesitate in saying that Sham Lal Sharma is the only minster who pays heed to the party workers. It was few workers of Taj Mohi-ud-Din who disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the rally,” he added
